Glenferrie Road Bridge over the Caufield Railway Lines

SRG Global’s Remedial team have completed a project for the Department of Transport Victoria to carry out bridge strengthening works to Glenferrie Road Bridge over the Caufield Railway Lines.

The 110 year old bridge required strengthening to increase capacity to allow heavier vehicles and all classes of trams to cross the bridge. Works included demolition of the existing footpath, building a new bridge deck and reinstating the existing road with upgraded tram tracks.

Crews worked on a 24 hour continuous cycle over a ten-day shutdown that involved a full road closure period to enable the road surface including tram tracks to be ripped up and reinstated.

This video chronicles the 10 day shutdown period and demonstrates the results of careful planning, preparation, and consultation between SRG Global, and the many stakeholders including the Department of Transport Victoria, Yarra Trams, City of Stonington and Metro Trains Melbourne to achieve the successful delivery within the tight occupation period.
