SRG Global’s Civil Team were presented the Judge’s Award at the 2022 CCF WA Earth Awards for Excellence in Civil Construction for the 20ML Karratha Water Tank and Associated Works project for Water Corporation.
The CCF WA Judges commented, ‘SRG demonstrated commendable planning, design and execution of the works to build a staged concrete structure with an expected lifespan of 100 years in a region where extreme weather events are prevalent.’
SRG Global in collaboration with Water Corporation set the overarching themes at the outset of the project that would guide and drive tendering, design and delivery of the project. Collaboration, innovation, open and effective stakeholder engagement and program certainty ultimately underpinned the project’s success.
The innovative ‘precast concrete, post-tensioned structure’ approach designed in-house involved counterweight systems during the temporary propping works to avoid the need for anchor bracing into the flat slab which could potentially have caused damage in high wind situations.
The 20ML Karratha Water Tank and Associated Works project is a clear demonstration of the Water Corporation’s key objective of delivering safe, secure, fit-for-purpose water services, while keeping the cost of services as low as possible in the long-term. The project also meets the requirement for services to be delivered in an increasingly environmentally sensitive way.
